After breakfast in the morning, you will drive to Nyangatom Village. The Nyangatom people live on the western side of the Omo River, with their homeland extending into South Sudan. Elders of both sexes wear a lower lip plug—men’s made from ivory and women’s from copper. Young girls wear dresses made from goat or sheepskin, decorated uniquely with nails.
After spending as much time as you would like in Nyangatom, you will drive to Hammer Village. The Hammer people, considered among the most beautiful in the Omo Valley, are primarily pastoralists, breeding cattle, goats, and sheep. They share a similar veneration for cattle with their neighbors and use clay to shape their hairstyles. During your two-night stay in Hammer Village, you will have the chance to witness the unique “bull-jumping” ceremony, a rite of passage that every young man must complete before marriage to become recognized as an adult. Your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
