Your guide will warmly welcome you at your Kigali hotel or airport, give you a friendly briefing about your upcoming safari, and ensure you’re comfortable before setting off. The journey unfolds through Rwanda’s picturesque “Land of a Thousand Hills,” with sweeping valleys, terraced tea and coffee plantations, and glittering streams. After crossing the Rwanda–Uganda border at Cyanika or Gatuna, the scenery transforms into the dramatic Kigezi Highlands, often called the “Switzerland of Africa” for their breathtaking beauty. Along the way, you’ll pass bustling markets and rolling farms that showcase Uganda’s rural charm. On arrival in Bwindi, you’ll visit the Batwa community—forest’s first inhabitants—to experience their music, dance, storytelling, and ancient survival traditions. The day ends at your lodge, embraced by misty rainforest and the soothing calls of exotic birds, setting the perfect tone for your gorilla trekking adventure.

Gorilla trek and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early breakfast, go to the park offices for a short briefing by the rangers on gorilla trekking rules and safety. With your guide, walk into Bwindi’s thick, misty forest—home to the rare mountain gorillas. The trek can take 2 to 6 hours through green hills and forest trails, but the moment you see a gorilla family is worth it. Watch them eat, play, and care for each other during your one special hour with them. Return to the lodge for a tasty lunch, then drive to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, famous for its calm, clean waters and 29 small green islands.
