Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, begin your journey south to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and home to over 13 species of primates.
The scenic drive (approx. 5–6 hours) takes you through Rwanda’s famed rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and vibrant rural villages. Arrive at your lodge in Nyungwe in the late afternoon or early evening, where you’ll check in, relax, and prepare for the exciting chimpanzee trek the next day.

Day 2

Start the day early with a light breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking briefing. Accompanied by a park ranger and guide, venture into the forest in search of wild chimpanzees, known for their lively calls and social behavior. Trekking can range from 1 to 4 hours, depending on their location.
After an exhilarating encounter with these intelligent primates, return to the lodge for a hot meal and freshen up.
In the afternoon, begin your long but scenic drive north (approx. 6–7 hours) to Volcanoes National Park, located in Rwanda’s Northern Province. The journey winds through the beautiful countryside, terraced hills, and local communities, giving you a real feel for rural Rwanda.
Arrive in the evening at your lodge near the park, nestled at the foot of the Virunga Mountains.

Day 3

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, head to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You’ll be assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level and hiking preferences. Trekking can take between 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group.
Once you locate the gorillas, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour in their presence — observing their behavior, interactions, and sheer majesty. The experience is both humbling and emotional.
After the trek, return to your lodge to rest. In the afternoon, you may choose to take part in an optional cultural tour at the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you can learn about Rwandan traditions, music, and dance from former poachers turned conservation ambassadors.

After a relaxed breakfast, depart for Kigali (approx. 2.5–3 hours’ drive). Upon arrival, take a guided city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which pays tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide and promotes peace and reconciliation.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and time for last-minute shopping at local craft markets or galleries before your transfer to Kigali International Airport and departure.
