Day 1

Your safari begins with a 5:00 AM pick-up from your Kigali hotel. After breakfast en route, enjoy the scenic drive east to Akagera National Park (approx. 2.5–3 hours). Upon arrival, embark immediately on an exciting game drive across the park’s savannahs, spotting elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and other wildlife. Optionally, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema to see hippos and birds. In the late afternoon, have dinner at your lodge and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

After an early breakfast, meet your guide at the park office and set out into the lush forests of Volcanoes National Park for your first gorilla trekking adventure. Trek through the misty forest to encounter a habituated gorilla family, spending an unforgettable hour observing their behavior in the wild. After the trek, you may visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about gorilla conservation. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay, reflecting on your incredible wildlife encounter.

Time permitting, you can visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Kimironko Market before your onward travel or hotel drop-off, concluding your unforgettable 5-day Rwandan wildlife and cultural safari.
