Gondar to Sankaber – Trekking into the Heart of the Simien Mountains

Begin your adventure with a warm welcome at Gondar Airport. After a scenic drive to Debark, the gateway to Simien Mountains National Park, complete your park entry formalities. If time permits, explore the lively local market before heading to the park entrance.

Your first trekking experience begins as you follow trails through stunning landscapes, spotting unique flora and fauna along the way. Keep an eye out for the iconic Gelada Baboons and other wildlife. Arrive at Sankaber Camp (3,250m) in the evening, where you’ll set up camp and enjoy your first night under the stars surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.

Sankaber to Gich – Panoramic Trails and Majestic Waterfalls

After a hearty breakfast, set off from Sankaber Camp and trek towards Gich Camp (approx. 15 km, 7 hours). The trail winds along the escarpment, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the rolling foothills below.

As you traverse enchanting forests of Giant Heather and Abyssinian Rose, keep watch for wildlife such as Klipspringer and Bushbuck. A highlight of the day is the Jinba Waterfalls, Ethiopia’s tallest waterfall, plunging dramatically 500 meters.

Arrive at Gich Camp in the evening, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and reflect on the day’s scenic journey.

Gich to Chenek – Ascend Mt-Imet Gogo & Mt-Innatye

Rise early for a full day of adventure as you leave Gich Camp to ascend Mt. Imet Gogo, rewarded with sweeping 360-degree views of the Simien Mountains. Descend into lush valleys and trek through grasslands dotted with unique flora, including Lobelia plants and Erica Arborea trees.

Next, conquer Mt. Innatye, famous for its dramatic cliffs and stunning vistas. Along the way, you may encounter Gelada Monkeys and the rare Walia Ibex, endemic to this region.

Reach Chenek Camp (3,620m) in the evening, where you’ll set up camp, enjoy a hearty meal, and relax under the vast starry sky.

Chenek to Mt-Buahit Summit and Back – Conquer Ethiopias Highest Peaks

After breakfast, prepare for an exhilarating ascent to Mt. Buahit, the highest peak of the Simien Mountains. The climb takes about 3 hours, rewarding you with breathtaking panoramic views of rugged cliffs, deep valleys, and dramatic landscapes.

Pause to enjoy lunch amid the mountains before beginning your descent, which takes approximately another 3 hours. Along the route, keep an eye out for endemic wildlife, including Walia Ibex and unique bird species found only in this region.

Return to Chenek Camp for your final night in the mountains, where you can relax, share stories of the day’s adventure, and enjoy the serene beauty of the highlands.
