After breakfast, you’ll head out on a scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park, located about 120 km west of Arusha. Though small in size, this park is rich in diversity. It’s one of the narrowest parks in Africa, yet it offers truly grand scenery, dominated by the dramatic backdrop of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment that rises steeply above the park’s western edge.
At the heart of the park lies its namesake, Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that expands and contracts with the seasons. The lake is a haven for birdlife, attracting thousands of wading birds including flocks of flamingos, and is home to over 500 recorded bird species.
As you explore the park, you might encounter elephants and baboons in the lush evergreen forests, and with a bit of luck, spot the park’s famous tree-climbing lions resting in the branches.
You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch within the park before continuing your game drive.
