"Forest" is not how I would describe the few hecaters of trees that make up Kakamega Forest National Reserve. If you want to experience a tropical rainforest, go elsewhere (Democratic Republic of Congo, for example).

Nice park with loads of monkeys. It is a very unique setting in rain forest which Kenya has little of.

Ronda's Retreat is the best place to stay in Kenya, particularly if they let you pay Kenyan rates. Blue monkeys and loads of birds on the grounds. Quite hard to see other wildlife in the park as it is a forest. Hire a guide.

Kakamega Forest is an oasis of the original forest that once blaneketed Kenya. It has been beautifully preserved. The butterflies alone are worth the visit.

Not your usual safari - it's a rain forest not a savannah. Exceptional for birding and hiking. Lots of monkeys and chimpanzees too.

Apparently quite unique wildlife (butterflies) but too small and too close to the people

You won't find big game in Kakamega, but you will find diverse birds, reptiles, and plants. It's off the beaten track, and there probably won't be many other tourists around. That said, western Kenya is a densely populated rural area, so you are likely to see people.

One of the few remaining primary rainforests left in Central Africa. Listening to the bonabos call in the early morning mist is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.

The Kakamega Rainforest is so beautiful! The wildlife is incredible. People come from thousands of miles away just to see the incredible birds. There are hundreds of different species of birds and butterflies in the forest. The monkeys are my favorite part! The climate is literally perfect. It is chilly in the morning and evening, and warm in the afternoon. If you want to visit the Kakamega Forest, make sure you stay at Rondo Retreat Centre, and visit the Kakamega Environmental Education Program (KEEP).

Apart from monkeys and birds, you won't get to see a lot of other wildlife. In the right season, butterflies fill the forest with colourful beauty.
