Mike Unwin is a prize-winning freelance writer and photographer who spent eight years living and working in southern Africa. Author of the Bradt Guide to Southern African Wildlife and 100 Bizarre Animals, he writes regularly about African wildlife and safaris for The Independent, Wanderlust, BBC Wildlife, Travel Africa and Africa Geographic, among numerous other publications, and is editor of Travel Zambia magazine. Mike has spent much of his life visiting many of Africa's most important reserves and conservation areas, and his responsibilities have included group leader for the Swaziland Bird Club, regional recorder for the South Africa Frog Atlas Project and education volunteer for the South Luanwga Conservation Society. Among Mike's awards are BBC Wildlife Magazine Travel Writer of the Year 2000 and British Guild of Travel Writers Best Overseas Feature 2008. Now based in the UK, he continues to travel to Africa whenever possible - and still dreams of one day seeing a pangolin.
