Lemur-Baobab Madagascar is a woman-led tour company founded and led by Onisca Vazaha, a native of Madagascar with a deep passion for sustainable and responsible tourism. Born and raised in Nosy Be, Onisca grew up surrounded by tourism as part of everyday life. From an early age, she witnessed how tourism could create opportunities and bring positive change to local families and communities. Seeing her parents, relatives, and neighbors benefit from welcoming travelers inspired her to develop a deep love for her homeland and a desire to share the authentic beauty of Madagascar with the world.
Onisca began her journey as a local tour guide, where she gained firsthand knowledge of Madagascar’s unique landscapes, wildlife, traditions, and hidden treasures. She also dedicated part of her journey to education by working in a local school and becoming the first person in her family to pursue university studies. This experience strengthened her belief that tourism and education can be powerful tools for creating opportunities and empowering communities. Through years of guiding travelers and exploring different regions of Madagascar, Onisca realized the importance of creating travel experiences that go beyond sightseeing. She wanted to develop journeys that respect local cultures, protect the environment, and ensure that tourism directly benefits the people who welcome visitors into their communities.
