Fantastic 5 day trip to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia
5/5

I made contact with Johnnie Kabwilo following a recommendation from my hosts during a trip to Malawi. Johnnie was able to offer me a tailor made trip, collecting me in Lilongwe, advising on visa, currency and SIM card practicalities at the border and arranging a hugely knowledgeable driver and guide for South Luangwa park based on my interests in wildlife conservation and ecology.

Johnnie was completely reliable, picking me up from my accommodation in Malawi, and getting me safely to Croc Valley Camp despite the long journey and poor roads. Johnnie knew all the staff at Croc Valley, which has a beautiful location on the Luangwa river. It was my choice to come in wet season to see the beauty of the environment in full bloom and we saw plenty of rain. All of the camp staff, from the warm and welcoming manager Thomas to the drivers, guides, spotters, security guards, bar staff, waiters and cleaners were exceptionally warm and welcoming.

I stayed in the Luxury tents which had plenty of space, a fan and airconditioning which would have been a life-saver in hotter weather, and a bathroom. The plumbing was a little on the "bush" side but it worked, which is more than I can say for some of the other places I stayed!

First time visitors in Africa might doubt the need for a security escort after dark to move between the tent and the reception area, but I was happy to have Bernard's confident guiding and powerful torch to prevent unwelcome close-up encounters with hippos or elephants at night.

My 5 day trip was perfect to return to some of the same locations on repeated occasions which gave us the chance to get to know individual leopards and lions and learn a little about their territories and family structures.

I came back with thousands of photos and very happy memories.

Johnnie went above and beyond his promises, even picking me up from my accommodation in Lilongwe the day after the trip to see me safely to the airport.

I would strongly recommend Misuku Expeditions for travellers who want to get off the beaten track without having to choose between extortionate luxury camps or very basic bush-camps.

Well-Organized, Professional Trip with Misuku Expeditions
5/5

I joined a one-week trip organized by Misuku Expeditions, which included a climb of Mount Mulanje as well as safari activities in Liwonde National Park, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish.

Throughout the entire week, I was accompanied by a dedicated driver named Ben, who was consistently available, extremely helpful, and knowledgeable. Beyond driving, he provided valuable explanations and background about every place we visited, effectively serving as a local guide and greatly enriching the journey.

Misuku Expeditions took care of all logistics, including meals, accommodation, and transportation. During the Mount Mulanje climb, they provided a highly experienced guide, along with a private cook and a porter. The entire mountain team was professional, courteous, and attentive, making the climb both safe and enjoyable.

In Liwonde National Park, the company arranged game drives and boat safaris throughout my stay, as well as accommodation located inside the park, which added significantly to the overall safari experience.

The entire trip was organized by Johnnie Kabwilo, who was exceptionally responsive and professional. He was available whenever needed and ensured that everything ran smoothly, even when I requested changes to the itinerary and schedule during the trip itself.

I can highly recommend Misuku Expeditions to anyone looking for a well-organized, flexible, and high-quality travel experience in Malawi, supported by a truly professional and caring team.

Amazing trip to Malawi!
5/5

I highly recommend Misuku Expeditions for anyone visiting Malawi! Johnnie created a customized itinerary for me as a solo traveler and was in constant communication. Sibu was a fun and engaging guide, and Mac was an excellent driver! When my arrival flight was delayed by 1 day, the Misuku team rearranged the trip based on what I wanted to see most- Majete, Mulanje, and Lake Malawi. At Majete, I was able to live my dream of seeing lions! Thank you Misuku for an amazing trip, and I hope to return to Malawi soon!

Our safari tour with Misuku Expeditions was easy, seamless, and an exceptional value
5/5

If you're looking for a seamless and unforgettable safari in Zambia, I highly recommend Misuku Expeditions. Our trip to South Luangwa National Park was incredible from start to finish, thanks to their excellent communication and organization throughout the entire process. James picked us up and drove us from Lilongwe to Croc Valley lodge in Zambia. He remained available all weekend, taking us into town for souvenirs. His kindness, professionalism, and availability made the experience really exceptional. For the cost, this experience offered outstanding value—everything was thoughtfully arranged, and we felt truly cared for throughout the trip. Misuku Expeditions exceeded all expectations—I’d enthusiastically recommend them to anyone!

reliable, friendly - perfect Safari in South Luangwa
5/5

After staying in Malawi for three weeks I decided to go on a Safari in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and I decided to book this trip via Misuku expiditions, because of all the good recommendations I've read about them. And it definitely was the best choice I could have made. Johnnie arranged everything and was very helpful fulfilling all my wishes. The transfer from Malawi to Zambia and back went smoothly and Johnnie brought me to the Airport just in time. He also arranged an additional game drive in South luangwa at our arrival day. During our stay at the Croc Valley Camp Johnnie helped us with everything and made sure everything was alright at any time. The game drives were all wonderful and amazing and I would definitely recommend this trip to anyboday who is nearby!

100% Use Misuku Expeditions over other tour companies
5/5

Johnnie is amazing. My boyfriend and I contacted him randomly from the Bradt Malawi guidebook as we were trying to find a tour company who could help us plan a 2.5 week trip throughout Zambia and Malawi.

Of all the tour companies we contacted, Johnnie was the most prompt, easy to work with, AND affordable. He has your best interests in mind when you tell him what you want to do and see, as well as what your budget is.

Johnnie helped us coordinate our stay at South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, as well as Dedza, Chongoni Rock, Mua Mission, Mount Mulanje, Zomba, and Cape Maclear in Malawi. He took care of all the logistics regarding accommodation, restaurants, and local tour guides. He drove us around to all the places too. Johnnie is also more than happy to make pit stops to walk through local villages with you, withdraw cash from the ATM, pull over the side of the road to take pictures, etc.

Johnnie is also just a great human being. He is speaks English very well and knows a lot about Malawi and Zambia. He is easy to talk to and makes you feel completely at ease, even as I am a foreign female traveler.

I told all my friends about Johnnie and Misuku Expeditions. I can’t wait to come back to Malawi in the future so he can take me to more places.

Fantastic Tour Company, Highly Recommended for Malawi and Zambia!
5/5

My girlfriend and I recently spent two weeks with Misuku expeditions in South Luangwa National Park and southern Malawi (Mt. Mulanje, Zomba, Liwonde, Cape Maclear, and more). Needless to say, these destinations exceeded all of our expeditions! Misuku enhanced our experience with local knowledge at every step, and handled all of the finer logistical details to make our journey as worry free as possible.

When planning the trip, Johnnie was easy to communicate with, flexible, and quick to understand our goals. When we met him in person, we found that he was an excellent guide and very safe driver. He had booked incredible places for us to stay and knew the logistics of our trip inside and out. On our journey, Johnnie introduced us a number of local contacts as part of Misuku's goal to promote sustainable tourism. In practice, this meant that we met amazing people and learned local perspectives everywhere we went! Johnnie also planned ahead to ensure that the ongoing fuel shortage in Malawi never hampered our trip.

The price Misuku offered us was very fair, better than many competing companies, and our experience was smooth from beginning to end. We had an unforgettable journey, and I feel like Johnnie became more like a friend than a tour guide by the end. Highly recommended if you’re planning to tour Malawi and Zambia!

Misuku Expeditions is a top notch adventure company
5/5

Misuku Expeditions is a Malawi owned and operated expedition company. I went to Lewondi National Park with them. The game drives, boat safari and accommodations were all top notch. I messed up my travel plans and then were incredibly accommodating and flexible. To top it off, we saw a mother rhino and her calf! Communication, and reliability were really solid. The price was very reasonable.

I couldn't wish better!
5/5

Malawi, and the Lake Malawi itself has been on my bucket list for 20 years. My experiences with Misuku Expeditions exceeded all my expectations!
The communication with Johnnie from the very first second was just like we would have been friends for ages. I whispered my dreams into his ears, and he helped me to make them come true!
We went two together for a two-days trip. First day he took me from Lilongwe to Liwonde for a one day game drive. We saw many antilopes, kudus, nyalas, waterbucks, bush pigs, marabous and elephant families with cute babies. In the afternoon we went for a sunset safari on the Shire river where we saw many hippos, plenty of colorful birds and elephants. After staying overnight in Kutchire Lodge on the bank of a small river where the hippos and crocodiles were running up-and down all night along in the light of the full moon... we continued our journey to Lake Malawi, to Cape Maclear.
The Lake was amazing! The water of it was crystal clean, and we were surranded by billions of the Lake Malawi fishes on our private boat tour! We went to Thumbi Island where I was snorkeling for hours while two local guys prepared grilled chambo fish with fresh veggies for me. After lunch we saw the fish eagles of the Island, then we returned to the village of the fishermen by sunset.
I was enriched by unforgettable memories along these two days with Johnnie!
I warmly recommend his tours to everyone! He was more than a guide, he became my friend along this trip of us!
