Go local and you will have the best hike for the lowest price.
5/5

My comments pertain to Tanzania safari and hiking Kilimanjaro. When I started the process of planning to hike Kili with my daughter, I did what most people do - go to Google and search. What you find is that all of the "big name" companies pay Google to be first on their search page and the small, local companies are hard to find. In encourage you to look carefully and consider a company that has an office in Moshi and is staffed by local people. They grew up in the shadow of the mountain and know more than any British or American firm that has a flashy website and persuasive marketing materials. We were lucky to find Oinoth Sirikwa, founder and owner of Sirikwa Travel. He grew up and lives in Moshi. In the earlier days of this company, they did not have a significant presence on travel review sites, but now they are killing it with well deserved 5-star ratings. Some tips for first timers: (1) Give yourself an extra travel day on the front and backend of the trip. We were supposed to hike with two other people, but they missed a flight. The mountain does not wait. (2) Rent the sleeping bag, tent, etc. from Sirikwa. It is low cost and very high quality. (3) The food is over-the-top with Sirikwa and we had no issues with water, but make sure you do not start eating too much. (4) Local companies have the best local guides. The guide is essential to get you to the top of this mountain. Some tours will go cheap and not hire the extra "summit porter". This is the person that carries support oxygen and will jump in to carry your pack if you struggle and they bring hot water, which was essential after everything we brought froze immediately. (5) The best money you will ever spend is to have a private bathroom. (6) Bring cash and envelopes to "tip" the guides and porters. I put tips in parenthesis because your tip is really their pay. The system is a very low base pay and then commission. Your tip is the commission. Be generous. These people have very little compared to the tourists climbing the mountain. (7) If you do not need the extra day on the front and backend of your trip, Sirikwa will organize a safari. They have their own vehicles and they are top notch. They even sent along an extra person to translate and make sure everything was OK. They provided water and food. Enjoy your hike and safari. Go Sirikwa!

Communication was so comfortable because they do speak many languages. Service wise I was treated as VIP because I took private tour so it was so comfortable with service accommodations and the tour in full details with pleasure.

One of a kind experience with Sirikwa Travels.
5/5

The time we started our enquiry with Sirikwa till we boarded our plane in Tanzania, we were treated with utmost respect. We were 4 women from Boston, USA did the kilimanjaro hike & Safari through Sirikwa. We couldn't be more happier with our experience.
We were greeted by Sirikwa's Manager in the airport who took care of all our needs & made us feel very comfortable.
We did 2 days Safari prior to the trek. We went to Tarangire National Park & Ngorongoro Crater. Our Guides Pachious & Ojung’u were so knowledgeable & took care of us very well. They were very courteous & made us very comfortable & safe. Our accommodation & food during the safari were amazing. We had a wonderful time during our both Safaris & also on our trek to Kilimanjaro. Thanks Sirikwa for making this ones in a life time experience extra special.

Fantastic Organization and a marvelous team
5/5

This was the best trip of all. We have been across the planet yet but rarely met such a perfectly organized team. Spending time alone on the mountain with the few of the companions from Sirikwa was a one of a lifetime experience. We‘d love to come back!

Sirikwa Travel provide the holiday of a lifetime and won’t rest until they know you are 100% happy.
5/5

Choosing a travel company and entrusting them to provide a memorable holiday is always tricky - instead of ‘playing safe’ with a bigger operator, we chose instead a local travel company (Sirikwa). That was surely the best decision we could have made. Sirikwa were simply exceptional every step of the way.

Through all the planning, welcoming us at the airport, the accommodation, food, pulling us up Kili and then providing the most magical few days on Safari-nothing was too much effort for Sirikwa. They simply did not rest until we were 100% happy and content. The team led by Oinoth and Mary, and all the guides, porters, cooks, drivers and game rangers could not have been more friendly and professional, they were simply outstanding. The laughter, dancing, singing, community and story telling will leave a lasting impression on the visitor.

Sirikwa Travel don’t just ensure you have an exceptional holiday, they accompany you back home after you leave them and they will pop up every now and then to remind you that you left a little part of your heart in Africa.

Kilimanjaro and Safari
5/5

Everything was fantastic! Booking directly with them was easy and they had great communication. From the time they picked us up we felt comfortable. Our guides and crew for the climb were kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Great encouragement when the climb go tough. Food was great.
Had another wonderful experience on our Safari. Our guide was fun and made sure we saw all the animals up close and new some great spots that didn’t have a lot of other jeeps so it was more personal.
Highly recommend them!!

The porters made the hike so amazing, they are kind, helpful, and know how to help when your tummy hurts or you’re lacking motivation. The owner makes everything a breeze from pick up to drop off. You’re in the best hands and will summit and have the time of your life!

Tour operator will treat you like his family, keeping you safe, great communication, and reliable.
5/5

After doing my research for ~3 months, I went with Sirikwa Travel, and now 3 years later and am very happy I did so.
This company treats you like family - keeps you safe, communicates openly, and extremely reliable. The guides and porters are all very friendly, and again always keeps your safety first and foremost.
They even made it unique and special to help us celebrate a birthday and celebratory party during and after the trek.
Price was very affordable and definitely the one to go with when concerning affordability, value, and overall experience at the end.

"Sirikwa Travel Highly Recommended"
5/5

I just completed the 7 Days Machame trek with Sirikwa Travel and it was absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to take care of me and everyone in our group. Despite the grueling nature of the hike, I felt completely spoiled by the delicious food, spacious tents, private toilet, and so many more luxuries. They completely surprised me with a two layer decorated cake complete with birthday candles for my 54 birthday one night. I’ll remember the kindness, generosity, strength, and work ethic of our guides, chef, waiter and porters. Our guide Jonathan was patient, friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable - request him on your trip!! Our chef Abasi made the most delicious meals I’ve ever had - all in a tent with equipment and food he carried up the mountain. Jonathan, and his team of porters, including the inspiring Joshua, were so friendly and hardworking. Joshua the waiter helped me find a bathroom in an emergency, he made sure our whole group always had whatever we wanted in terms of food and drink, he was fantastic! The whole Sirikwa Travel team was inspiring, easy to work with, and went above and beyond to truly make my trip a once in a lifetime event. I highly recommend this company.
