Brilliant and diverse safari in Uganda with Gatatu

Five members of a photography club went on a safari with Gatatu. We had very diverse experiences on that trip. We were driven by Stephen who was an excellent driver, very knowledgeable of the area and of the animals. His assistant Leonard was great company who also knew the area well.

To give you an idea; we were met at the airport and driven to a lodge by Lake Bunyoni, tranquil and beautiful. From there we drove to Queen Elisabeth Park to see the animals, elephants, lions, bock and more. Stephen and Leonard had a sharp eye and an encyclopaedic knowledge. We stayed in Irungo Forest Safari Lodge whilst exploring the park. A great place.

Other notable trips included the trek to the gorillas. That was sensational and well worth doing, brilliantly guided by expert trackers. Also we made a boat around the shore of lake Edward where the animals had come down to get water. That was an absolutely fabulous sight and also expertly guided by very knowledgeable people on the boat.

On the 5th day we were delivered back to the airport. There was great continuity in having the same driver. Accommodation was fantastic and very varied. The food was always excellent and no one experienced any problems with food related infections.

I would say Gatatu delivered a fabulous package facilitating all those experiences. It was excellent value for money and definitely lived up to, and exceeded expectations.

I have no hesitation in recommending Gatatu very highly indeed and would definitely return for more!

An Experience to

My time with Steven traveling around Uganda and experiencing the chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas was an exceptional experience. I began the planning six months before arrival and Richard was always informative and prompt in his correspondence. I knew exactly what to expect and that was how it happened. The lodging, meals, and travel were all at the level I expected and met my needs. Both the chimp and gorilla tracking went off without any problem and were lifetime experiences. The interaction with the gorillas was fantastic. Steven had good relations with all the tracking rangers and Gatatu seemed to have a very good reputation. Steven's commentary as we drove across the country was informative and interesting. I have a much better understanding of the country and it's people as a result. The visit to the school was inspiring and fun. This was the fifth time I traveled around the world and I've visited and toured in133 countries to date. I found Gatatu Safaris right at the top of quality people and offerings from all my travels.

Great experience

I had a great experience with Gatatu during my time in Uganda.
Richard was helpful from the very beginning and patiently answered every question that I asked.
He's also a really pleasant person to talk to, too.
Steven was an experienced driver, he mastered the rocky roads with ease.
After the Safari he even drove me to the border with Rwanda and organised for me
a taxi to Kigali which I really appreciated.
I got to see the whole family of gorillas and that made my adventures in Uganda even more amazing

Wonderful experience in Rwanda and Uganda with Gatatu Safaris

We went to Rwanda and Uganda for a private two people Safari (12 days). The communication with the company during the initial inquiry and ongoing preparation of our tailor-made tour war always quick and pleasant. All the luxury suggested accomodations were well managed, clean and breath taking. The driver (Steven) was very friendly, careful and always available when needed. My experience with Gatatu Safaris and Stephen (my guide) was extraordinary. We hit the main attractions in the region (Lake Mburu Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Gorilla trekking at Mugahinga, Lake Bunyonyi, etc.), staying at wonderful places and eating like kings. Stephen really made the difference, since he really went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. I have traveled extensively in Africa, but this trip was one of my most pleasant experiences. I was very lucky to contact Gatatu Safaris and I recommend them without reservations. They know Uganda (and Rwanda) better than most companies and they give an excellent, incredible service. And they are not expensive.

Amazing Gorilla Tracking Experience with having very flexible and helpful Tour Guides

After having some incidents with the booking agency, the tour operator intensively supported me in finding a solution and making the gorilla tracking tour take place.
The moutain gorilla tour has definitely been the absolute highlight of my two weeks tour in East Africa. In Uganda, I have met the friendliest people ever giving me a very warm welcome to their country Uganda.
Regarding the tour itself everything was very well organized and managed. If you are coming to meet a gorilla, look into his face you really see how they express their feelings and the moment you look into their eyes you become clear that the gorillas are very similar to us.
Knowing that they are an endangered species and there are only a few spots left where they still exist results in the fact that it is a MUST to visit those unique creatures.

Our guide, Fred, grew up around that area and was very knowledgeable of the history and culture of the lake area and of Uganda as well.

We decided to go see the gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda for our honeymoon, best decision ever! My husband searched online ad nauseam for the best deals and we were so lucky/thankful we stumbled across Gatatu tours! The owner, Richard, was such a pleasure to work with. He always replied to the endless questions we had and really helped us personalize our trip. Per our request, we even got to meet the kids he helps support. We loved the questions the kiddos had for us and were very impressed with all the plans Richard has for the school (his passion and dedication to these kids is truly inspiring!). As for the main attraction, I can't talk up seeing the gorillas enough! It was such a humbling and amazing experience. As previous people have commented, they require a wire transfer to book the trip (this is not uncommon, we did the same for a prior trip to Tanzania). 1) the Bunyonyi photography trek
This was a short, morning trip to 5 locations: beauty spots overlooking the stunning Lake Bunyonyi. A perfect contrast to the bustle of downtown Kabale. Stunning panoramas which I will enjoy sharing with my photography club back in London.
The driver, Stephen, proved very careful, knowledgeable and sensitive to my needs eg coffee!
