Wonderfull 16-days safari in Uganda with Semu Gorilla Safaris and Tours!
We booked a safari with Semu Gorillas Safaris and Tours in June 2026 and had a fantastic 16-day trip through Uganda!
Uganda was on our bucket list for years and we had some specific wishes in our visit. We were recommended Semu through Facebook and from the first moment the contact felt very good and trustworthy. Semu helped us fit everything we wanted to do during the trip in the timeframe we had and their responses to our questions were always fast. We had some of our own ideas, but we also were well advised on what not to miss by Semu. Also when one of us got a knee injury right before the trip and there were some concerns about Ebola, they reassured us and took this into account.
We would like to give special thanks to Jimmy, our fantastic guide and driver, for our unforgettable time in Uganda. Jimmy made sure we were having a good time with his stories about Uganda, his humor, his big smile and his knowledge about the animals, nature and life in Uganda. He always made sure we were okay and we lacked nothing! Jimmy took our trip to a next level and made sure we saw everything we came for! Even though it also depended on nature, like he would say :) We enjoyed traveling together with Jimmy, spotting animals, doing mango stops and being a good team and of course having a lot of laughs together! he made our Uganda dreams come true!
Uganda is characterized by its diversity in landscapes and nature. This, together with countless types of animals and friendly locals makes it a highly recommended travel destination and a must visit. The nature is breathtaking and everything still looks unspoiled. It’s impossible to choose the best between so many highlights. The memories of our trip in Uganda will forever put a smile on our faces.

Reliable Organized Tour Operator
We enjoyed an excellent four day tour of Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth National Parks in early May with Semu. The parks and lodges were quieter at that time of year, which made the experience even better, and the weather cooperated throughout. We were fortunate to have Edison join us, along with Jimmy, our driver and guide. From the earliest planning stages right through to the end of the trip, Edison provided clear, helpful information and always responded promptly.
For our budget accommodations, I was pleasantly surprised by Mpogo Lodge — it was outstanding. Our second stay at Engiri Game Lodge offered a different charm: the huts were simple but comfortable, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We were even treated to daily visits from elephants wandering through the property, which was such a memorable highlight. Meals at both lodges were very good.
The itinerary kept us busy, with several activities each day. We saw an impressive variety of wildlife, thanks in large part to Jimmy’s sharp eye — he often spotted animals long before we did. Although the drives from Kampala to the parks were long, they were enjoyable, with plenty to see along the way. Our guides did everything possible to make the trip smooth and enjoyable.
We added an extra day to visit Jinja and the Source of the Nile, and it was absolutely worth it.
Overall, it was a fantastic trip filled with lasting memories. I highly recommend booking with Semu.

Exceptional 3-day gorilla trekking experience
From start to finish this was a great tour!
My guides, Edison and Tonny, were outstanding. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to accommodate any needs. They were especially helpful with the pickup and drop-off arrangements.
The tour itself was perfectly organized and truly memorable. The gorilla trekking was an unforgettable experience. Even though the accommodation was listed as “budget,” I found it to be really fantastic and the food was great too.

We recently completed two trips in Uganda and Rwanda:
Uganda: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park and both the standard Gorilla Trek and Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Rwanda: Golden Monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park, climbing Mount Bisoke, and safari in Akagera National Park.
From our very first web inquiry, we were impressed. Edison replied promptly and followed up with clear, well-planned itineraries. Communication was smooth from the start, which gave us confidence moving forward.
The wildlife experiences were extraordinary and consistently exceeded expectations. We tracked chimpanzees, saw golden monkeys, and encountered mountain gorillas three separate times — on the standard trek, during the habituation experience, and unexpectedly on our Mount Bisoke descent.
Climbing Mount Bisoke was physically demanding and deeply rewarding. On our way down, a group of 15 wild gorillas — including six silverbacks — crossed directly in front of us. It was unscripted, powerful, and easily one of the most remarkable wildlife moments we’ve ever experienced.
The parks in both countries are exceptionally well managed. The level of organization and dedication to conservation is evident everywhere. Uganda and Rwanda take preservation seriously, and it shows.
The people we met were warm, welcoming, and proud of their countries.
Our accommodations were comfortable and well selected, and the food was consistently good.
Our driver-guide, Mukasa, was outstanding — skilled on challenging roads, punctual, engaging, and steady in every situation. We had a strong, reliable vehicle that handled rough terrain with ease. Both Edison’s and Mukasa’s English are very good, which made communication easy and added to the overall comfort of the experience.
If I had to describe the tour operator in one word: Reliable.

Reliable, responsive, and easy to work with
Edison from Semu Gorilla Safaris was super easy to communicate with. He was very responsive to all our questions and adjusted our itinerary and quote multiple times based on our requests. We ended up with a 6D/5N tour that picked us up in Kigali, took us Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, on safari in Queen Elizabeth, and chimp trekking in Kibale, then dropped us off in Kampala. We made a 50% deposit when we confirmed the tour., then paid the remaining after we were picked up.
We were assigned Jimmy Mukasa as our guide and he was incredible. The guide is what will make your trip, and Mukasa was fantastic. He was responsive to all our requests while on the road. He picked us up right on time and followed the itinerary we requested. He was diligent about starting on time each day, which I very much appreciated. He knew about the animals we were seeing and always made sure we got the shots and viewpoints we wanted. I never felt rushed.

Excelente Safari Tour
I had an excellent experience with Semu Gorilaz. The service was great, and they delivered exactly what was promised. Jimmy, our guide, was very kind and took care of every detail from the very beginning. Additionally, he is very knowledgeable about birds. Since my English is not very strong, he always made sure to clarify any doubts I had.

Semu has offered us the possibility to have this experience on one day adapting to us. Other agencies force you to take minimum three days what increases a lot the price of your experience. Samuel always helpedus fast and he was very professional.

Amazing Guide and Experience
Highly recommend Jimmy and his team! We saw all the big 5, and a large part of that was because Jimmy spotted a leopard way far off. Definitely needed an expert guide like him to see that. He knew so much about the animals and park and was friendly and kind. Also was the most cost effective option we found!
