Rockfowl Safaris Took my Money and didn't Deliver
1/5

After spending several weeks researching a big trip to Africa, I specifically booked a tour advertised by Rockfowl Safaris that took you to Chobe National Park in Botswana and a village in Namibia. I wanted to check off two countries in one-day and I paid a deposit 3 weeks in advance, directly to them. I mentioned I was a solo-traveler and saw the tour was brand new, so even went as far as to ask if I may expect to get canceled if a certain amount of people didn't book it. They specifically mentioned they would never cancel a tour, even if one person had paid for it and was confirmed.

I had other options and discount codes available with other operators if I would have wanted to just do Chobe in Botswana, but I speficically paid extra money to include a second country, Namibia.

2 days before I arrived, I sent them a message making sure things were all good, and they assured me everything was good. 24 hours before the tour, they messaged me a lie telling me that the tour to Nambia had to get canceled "because of a storm" which was a lie.

The completely canceled the tour I had paid 3 weeks in advance and just threw me in with another tour company I never had contact just to do the Chobe portion. They did reduce the cost of the package and gave me more money back after I demanded it, but I ended up paying extra for this and didn't get to do the second country.

They took my money and couldn't deliver and on top of that, they lied. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL

Dear Carlos

We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify the facts.

At Rockfowl Safaris, guest safety is always our highest priority, and we will never place lives at risk for financial reasons. Your booking was confirmed for a Chobe National Park day trip combined with a Namibian Island visit, and our intention was fully to deliver both experiences.

It is important to note that January falls within the rainy and storm season in this region. On the day of travel, severe weather and rough river conditions made cross-border boat operations unsafe. For this reason, and purely in the interest of guest safety, we made the responsible decision to remove only the 3-hour Namibian Island visit, while allowing the rest of the itinerary to proceed.

This adjustment was made solely to protect you and other guests. We would like to emphasize that we had no intention of canceling the Namibia visit, as a core objective of this tour is to support a local village in Namibia, which remains central to our mission.

Regarding payments and refunds, you negotiated a discounted rate from USD 260 to USD 230, which our team approved. You paid a USD 110 deposit, and following the itinerary adjustment, the tour cost was reduced, after which you paid a USD 60 balance, bringing your total payment to USD 170.. You later shared a message indicating you believed the Chobe day trip should total USD 150. Although this was not a requirement, we voluntarily refunded an additional USD 20 to accommodate your budget. This refund was provided in good faith and was not demanded.

While we regret that weather conditions prevented the full itinerary from taking place, we stand by our commitment to safety, transparency, and fair treatment of our guests. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.
