We found Shaba and its sister reserves in the area much drier parks than the others we have visited further south, though no less plentiful places for animals. On both occasions in 2007 and again this year we stayed at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. This was well worth the tourist dollars though there are several lodges of equal calibre throughout the general area in and out of the three parks we visited in that region.

Scenic beauty like no other place - except perhaps Tsavo West N.P.

Excelent accomodation, ample food and good variation of courses. Fine vararity of wildlife within short transport distance. Few tourists in this area, thus the best Bush vibe here.

Shaba is a beautiful place in terms of scenery, although we didn't see any wildlife apart from a crocodile. It is incredibly hot.

I have been to alot of parks but Samburu takes the cake. The accomodation and was wonderful cannot say enough about it ,I stayed at Sarova ,the guide was good and well informed but what blew me away was the place the weather was dry if it was hot i guess i didn't really notice as i said the guide was good but the loudest voice was nature itself seeing the elephants in their herd and in the backdrop of the scenery, I felt a shift in my consciousness and felt as though the world had let me in on a secret and in that moment i felt small, honored and blessed, the lions were also awesome since they were full we went close...i mean really close .Overall it was a spectacular holiday it was as if the animals got a memo and came out to show themselves...bellissima

As with all of my experiences, it's amazing just how different all of these areas can be in the same country. Though Shaba was only a short drive from the other locations we stayed at, there were different animals, scenes and climates there than anywhere else we visited. Kenya truly offers a remarkable variety of experiences! We stayed at Joy's Camp and this camp and these tents were truly lovely as well. The style is different from much of the rest of Kenya and it's beautiful, unique and enjoyable.
