Between 1st of December and the 31st of March, the wildebeest descend in their droves to give birth to their calves at Lake Ndutu in the Southern Serengeti. The wildebeest arrive in the Ndutu area during the light November rains, attracted by the salacious shoots popping out of the volcanic soil of the Ngorongoro Conservancy, where Lake Ndutu is located.
