The vast Serengeti plains are home to the world’s most spectacular wildlife event—the Great Migration. Each year, around 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by over 200,000 zebras and gazelles, move in a circular route between the Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing. Between mid-February and mid-March, over 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily. The herd faces constant threats from Africa’s top predators as they traverse more than 2,500 km. Depending on the season of your visit, your driver-guide will update you on the herd’s current location within the Serengeti.
