Lake natron– Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti is one of the most remote and spectacular regions of Serengeti National Park, located in the northern part of Tanzania near the border with Kenya. This area is known for its beautiful rolling plains, scattered acacia trees, rocky hills, and river valleys, creating a stunning natural landscape that is slightly different from the wide open plains of the central Serengeti.
One of the most important natural features of Northern Serengeti is the Mara River, which flows through the region and provides water for many animals throughout the year. The river supports a rich ecosystem and is home to large crocodiles and hippos that live in its waters. Northern Serengeti is especially famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the most incredible wildlife events in the world. Every year, millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles travel across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing land and water.

The central Serengeti is home to permanent water sources, particularly the Seronera River, which ensures that animals remain in the area year-round. Visitors can frequently see lions resting on kopjes, leopards hidden in the trees, and cheetahs moving across the plains. Large herds of elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and various antelopes graze the grasslands, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife observation.
The rocky kopjes, iconic to the Serengeti landscape, not only offer dramatic scenery but also serve as lookout points for predators and as resting areas for animals. The mixture of grasslands, woodland patches, and riverine forests makes the central Serengeti rich in biodiversity and ideal for photography and nature enthusiasts.
