After a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, your guide will pick you up for a scenic drive through coffee farms, banana plantations, and local villages to Marangu Gate, the official starting point of the Marangu Route. Complete park formalities, meet your porters, and begin trekking through lush rainforest, alive with colorful birds, playful colobus monkeys, and cascading streams. Your guides will share insights about the Chagga people and point out unique plants along the trail. After several hours of hiking, arrive at Mandara Hut, where you can rest, enjoy a hot meal, and spend your first night in comfortable mountain hut accommodations, preparing for the climb ahead.

After breakfast, your climb continues as you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moors and heathland zone. The landscape transforms, offering panoramic views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks, creating a sense of awe as you ascend higher. The terrain is more open, with giant lobelias and senecio plants giving the scenery a surreal, almost otherworldly appearance. This section is moderately challenging but very scenic, allowing you to enjoy the dramatic beauty of Kilimanjaro while continuing your acclimatization. By afternoon, you will arrive at Horombo Hut, where you can relax and enjoy a warm meal while taking in the stunning sunset over the mountain. Overnight at Horombo Hut provides a restful opportunity to prepare your body for the higher altitudes to come.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will begin the climb to Kibo Hut, traversing the Saddle, the high-altitude desert area that lies between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The air becomes thinner, making the hike more challenging, but the dramatic scenery provides a reward for your effort. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you will have time to rest, hydrate, and enjoy a light meal in preparation for the midnight summit attempt. This evening is critical for mental and physical preparation, as the climb ahead to Uhuru Peak is the most demanding and exhilarating stage of your Kilimanjaro adventure.

After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, descend carefully back to Horombo Hut, stopping for breaks and refreshments along the way. The descent is long but manageable, and you’ll be able to enjoy the unique high-altitude flora and dramatic terrain once more. Overnight at Horombo Hut gives you the rest needed to recover from the summit day.
