Day 1

Arusha - Lake Natron

Arusha - Lake Natron

You’ll depart after breakfast with a hot lunch en route to Lake Natron, a surreal landscape about a 3.5-hour drive from Mto wa Mbu or Manyara. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and take a short rest before setting out with a local Maasai guide for a walk along the shimmering shores of Lake Natron. Its shallow, highly alkaline waters, rare and otherworldly form the heart of East Africa’s most important breeding ground for lesser flamingos. During the breeding season, up to two million of these graceful birds gather here, painting the lake pink against a stark volcanic backdrop. Egg-laying and hatching peak between September and January, turning Natron into a living canvas of color and life.

Your guide will lead you to the best vantage points as thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles surge across the river, driven by instinct and the promise of greener plains.
