Leave Nairobi at 9 a.m. and journey north through rolling hills and whispering farmlands toward Nanyuki, where Mount Kenya’s peaks glimmer like distant crowns. After meeting your porters, drive to Sirimon Gate and begin your 9 km ascent to Judimere Campsite. The trail winds through emerald forests alive with birdsong and rustling monkeys, giving way to misty bamboo and open moorland. As dusk settles, reach Judimere, where tents glow softly beneath a thousand stars—the mountain’s lullaby welcoming you to its wild, poetic embrace.

Day 2

At dawn, leave Judimere Campsite at 7:00 a.m., your picnic lunch packed and spirit eager for adventure. The trail to Shipton’s Camp stretches 14 km, a 7–8 hour ascent through ever-changing landscapes. You climb past towering forest canopies into the moorland, where giant lobelias and groundsels stand like silent sentinels of the mountain. Cool winds whisper through the valleys as the air grows thinner and crisper. Every step draws you closer to the heart of Mount Kenya, and by late afternoon, you arrive at Shipton’s Camp — nestled beneath the proud twin peaks of Batian and Nelion. Here, under a starlit sky, you dine and rest in your tent, surrounded by the mountain’s timeless majesty.

Day 3

Distance: 8km

Elevation gain: 785

Leave Shipton at 3:00 am to attempt the summit, a journey that takes 3 ½ hours to reach the summit. Point Lenana is the third highest peak in Mt Kenya and the only one that can be reached by trekking. On a clear sky day, you can see Mt Kilimanjaro on the southern side and the Indian Ocean shining as the sun is rising. After enjoying the summit, descend down to the hall's tarn campsite where you will spend your 3rd night in the tent.

This is one of the nicest campsites in Mt Kenya since it offers a great view of sunrise in front of the lake, Chogoria gorges and valley, Lake Michaelson, Delamere peaks and the 3 major peaks namely Batian, Nelson and Lenana.

After an early breakfast, you begin your descent from the high mountain slopes, the air crisp and thin as dawn light spills over the peaks. The trail winds 16 km down toward Chogoria Anabas Camp, a 6-hour journey through shifting landscapes. You leave behind the rugged alpine world and re-enter lush valleys draped in mist, where streams sing and wildflowers carpet the path. The descent is steady, with an elevation loss of about 1,250 meters, revealing breathtaking views at every turn. Lunch is enjoyed en route, surrounded by the whispers of the forest, before arriving at Chogoria Anabas Camp for a peaceful night beneath the tranquil embrace of the mountain.

Day 5

After a hearty breakfast, begin your final descent, walking 5 km to the Bairunyi clearance point. The trail winds gently through moorland and into the embrace of the thick Mount Kenya rainforest, where towering trees drip with morning mist and birds sing farewell songs. At Bairunyi, your vehicle awaits to take you through the lush green canopy toward Chogoria town. Here, you bid a fond goodbye to your loyal guides and porters as they journey back to Nanyuki. With memories carved deep in your heart, you continue your drive to Nairobi — the rhythm of the mountain still echoing softly in your soul.
