Fly Addis Ababa to Gondar and Drive to Sankaber

In the morning, take a flight from Addis Ababa to the historic city of Gondar, known for its medieval castles and churches. Upon arrival, meet your guide and drive through beautiful highland scenery to Sankaber, the gateway to the Simien Mountains National Park. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the rugged cliffs and deep valleys that define the park’s landscape. In the afternoon, take a short walk around Sankaber to spot the famous Gelada baboons, also known as “bleeding-heart monkeys,” as they graze in large groups along the escarpment.

Drive Sankaber to Chennek and Visit Walia Ibex

After breakfast, drive deeper into the park towards Chennek, one of the most scenic parts of the Simien Mountains. The route offers breathtaking viewpoints and opportunities to see endemic wildlife. On arrival in Chennek, explore the area and search for the rare Walia ibex, a majestic mountain goat found only in these mountains. End your day with a peaceful evening surrounded by towering peaks and the crisp mountain air.

Drive Chennek to Gich, Observe Birds and Wildlife, and Return to Gondar

After lunch, begin your drive back to Gondar, descending from the highlands with beautiful views along the way. Arrive in Gondar in the evening and check into your hotel for a relaxing night.
