After breakfast at Kilema Camp (2,800 m), you begin your ascent toward Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Today’s ride takes you from the lush rainforest into the heath and moorland zone, where the scenery changes dramatically — with open landscapes, giant groundsels, and heather scattered across volcanic slopes.
The trail is a mix of steep and gradual climbs, requiring steady effort and good balance, especially on rocky sections. As you gain altitude, the air becomes thinner, and your guide will set a manageable pace to ensure proper acclimatization. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak and the plains below.

Horombo to kibo hut
After an early breakfast at Horombo Hut (3,720 m), you continue your cycling adventure toward Kibo Hut (4,700 m). Today’s route takes you through the Alpine Desert zone, where vegetation becomes sparse and the landscape turns into a dramatic expanse of volcanic rock and ash.
The trail is challenging, with long stretches of gradual climbs and occasional steep, rocky sections. As you ride higher, you’ll feel the effects of altitude, so maintaining a slow and steady pace is key. Take frequent breaks to hydrate and enjoy breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak to your right and the towering Kibo Summit ahead.
