8-Day Kruger to Hoedspruit Experience

Your Safari Adventure Begins

The adventure begins the moment you arrive at your arranged pickup location, where the Avella Travels guides welcome you and escort you to your private safari vehicle. A small welcome pack waits on your seat to add a personal touch to the journey. After introductions and loading your luggage, we set off on a scenic forty five minute drive toward the southern region of Kruger National Park, passing mountain views and sugar cane plantations along the way. Our destination for the evening is Berg en Dal Rest Camp, set at the foothills of these beautiful mountains. Check in takes place after 14:00 and once everything is settled we head out on our first afternoon sunset game drive to explore the surrounding area. As the day winds down we return to camp, freshen up and enjoy a traditional South African braai before settling and prepare for the exciting adventure ahead.

Morning and Afternoon Games Drives

The first morning of your safari adventure begins with a hot drink and a light snack as the sun rises over the savannah. You then head out on a three to four hour game drive to explore the area and search for wildlife such as wild dogs, lions, honey badgers and more. Early mornings are ideal for spotting predators on the move while the air is cool and the day has not yet warmed. After an exciting start, you return to your accommodation for a hearty home made breakfast before enjoying some time to relax, whether it is a refreshing swim or reading a book with the sounds of birdlife around you. In the afternoon you head out again for a sunset game drive and end the day with a drink and a delicious meal around the fire.

Game Drive and Transfer to Nkuhlu Camp

As we follow our familiar and enjoyable rhythm of a morning and afternoon game drives. After the morning drive, we return for a hearty breakfast before preparing to move to your next camp, a location that offers a wonderful sense of luxury and privacy. Since we remain inside Kruger National Park, the journey becomes a relaxed transfer game drive with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, your guides will check you in and the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy at your own pace. This night is a self catering experience, giving you the chance to unwind, cook a meal and fully settle into the comfort of your new surroundings. Your guides will meet you again the following morning.

New Landscapes and Adventure

Enjoy a leisurely morning with a self-catered breakfast on the deck overlooking the beautiful Sabie River. With its permanent water, the river is always alive with wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled as you relax and soak in the surroundings. Your guides will collect you before check-out and set off on a scenic game drive north toward Satara, taking in the wide-open savannah and diverse landscapes along the way. This part of the park is known for its vast grass plains and abundant wildlife, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a rare cheetah. Stop for lunch at Tshowkwane Picnic Site or Orpen Dam, where you can watch hippos and enjoy the peaceful waterside views. After lunch, continue to Satara Rest Camp for check-in, and end the day with a relaxing dinner, immersing yourself in the calm and beauty of your surroundings.

Explore the Grasslands of Central Kruger

Start the day with an early morning game drive, exploring the open grasslands of Satara, a region renowned for predator activity and large herds of zebra and wildebeest. Enjoy a picnic breakfast at Nwanetsi Picnic Site, taking in stunning views along the edge of the Mozambique border. After breakfast, take a leisurely drive back to Satara Camp to relax by the pool or enjoy the local restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll set out for more adventures in the area, possibly visiting a waterhole or having a relaxed drink while watching elephants and other wildlife at the water. The day concludes with delicious dinner at camp.

Our Last Morning Safari

Your final morning game drive of the trip, but the adventure isn’t over yet. You can choose an early start before sunrise or enjoy a leisurely morning before we depart for Hoedspruit, where you’ll spend the next two nights. The first leg of the 115km journey provides more opportunities to spot wildlife, and as we exit Kruger National Park, we bid farewell to its incredible animals and prepare for the scenic and educational experiences that lie ahead.

Conservation and Boat Cruises

After a hearty breakfast prepared by the lodge, we visit the renowned Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, where you’ll gain a fascinating insight into wildlife conservation and rehabilitation. Observe up close the care given to injured or orphaned animals and learn about the vital work that helps protect South Africa’s remarkable wildlife. After this inspiring morning, we enjoy a leisurely lunch before heading toward the mountains for a scenic boat cruise on the Blyde River Dam. Keep your eyes open for hippos and crocodiles while soaking in the breathtaking scenery of cliffs, lush riverbanks, and shimmering waters. We return to the lodge to freshen up before a delightful dinner at a local restaurant, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of the day.
