After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, we will drive for approximately 1.5 hours to Momella Gate (1,500m), the starting point of our trek. At the gate, we’ll complete all necessary paperwork before embarking on the adventure. The trek begins with a scenic walk through lush forest, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance and the beautiful Momella Lakes below. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife, such as Bushbucks, Cape Buffaloes, Giraffes, and Warthogs. The terrain is relatively gentle as we ascend gradually towards Miriakamba Hut (2,514m), our destination for the night. Once at the hut, you’ll have time to settle in, relax, and enjoy a delicious dinner with views of the surrounding landscape.

The trail ascends steeply along the ridge, offering spectacular views of Meru Crater, the Ash Cone, and Little Meru. Along the way, there are opportunities to spot wildlife like Cape Buffaloes and the Black and White Colobus Monkeys. The hike takes about 4-5 hours, and once we reach Saddle Hut, you’ll have a chance to rest and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll go on a short acclimatization trek to Little Meru (3,810m), which will help your body adjust to the altitude before the final summit attempt. After returning to Saddle Hut, you’ll have dinner and rest, preparing for the challenging ascent the following day.

Day 3

Saddle Hut to Summit to Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

Saddle Hut to Summit to Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

The final day starts with a very early wake-up call around 12:00 AM. After a light snack, we begin the most challenging part of the trek the ascent to Socialist Peak (4,562m), the summit of Mount Meru. This section is steep and strenuous, involving rocky terrain and gravel paths as we make our way up the cliffs. The climb will test both your physical and mental endurance, but the reward at the top is unforgettable: breathtaking panoramic views of the Meru Crater, the Ash Cone, and the surrounding savanna below. After reaching the summit and soaking in the view, we begin our descent by retracing our steps back to Saddle Hut for a brief rest before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut. From there, it’s a final descent to Momella Gate, where the trek ends. The total hiking time on this day can be up to 13-14 hours, so it will be a physically demanding yet immensely rewarding experience.
