Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp (3010m)
After a 1-hour drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, we complete park formalities and meet our crew of porters. The trek begins with a steady climb through the dense, lush rainforest. The trail is less traveled, so expect some overgrown sections and wet, muddy conditions underfoot. As we climb, we’ll get a taste of the unique forest ecosystem that covers the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. We’ll end the day at Machame Camp.

Machame Camp (3010m) to Shira Camp (3845m)
Our ascent continues through the rainforest until we reach the steep ascent onto the Shira Plateau, where breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro start to unfold. Looking back, you'll get a glimpse of Mount Meru, rising above Arusha in the distance. As we approach Shira Camp, we’ll notice the landscape transition to more open, alpine terrain. This is a shorter day, allowing for some acclimatization.
Day 3

Shira Camp (3845m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)
Today, we hike across the Shira Plateau, enjoying magnificent views of the mountain and surrounding valleys. We traverse the southwestern side of Kilimanjaro, passing under the Lava Tower (4600m) and the Western Breach. Following the mountaineering principle of “climb high, sleep low” to aid acclimatization, we descend slightly to Barranco Camp, nestled in the valley beneath the towering Barranco Wall.

Barranco Camp (3960m) to Barafu Camp (4640m)
After breakfast, we begin a steep climb up the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding section of the trek. Once on top, the path becomes easier as we continue across a ridge and head toward Barafu Camp, situated at 4640m. The landscape here is stark and desolate, with little vegetation, and the terrain becomes rocky and arid. We’ll arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon, where we'll rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt. Dinner will be early, and we’ll try to get some rest before the midnight ascent.
Day 5
Barafu Camp (4640m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Millennium Camp (3790m)
Barafu Camp (4640m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Millennium Camp (3790m)
Our summit day begins around midnight, as we set out for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point on Kilimanjaro. The climb is steep and challenging, but the views at Stella Point (5739m), just before sunrise, are absolutely stunning, with glaciers and ice cliffs surrounding the summit. After a short rest, we continue to Uhuru Peak, where we’ll celebrate reaching the "Roof of Africa." The descent back to Barafu Camp for breakfast is quick, but then we descend further to Millennium Camp for a well-earned rest.
