Journey to Samburu and first game drive

Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Nairobi, winding through Kenya’s scenic central highlands and past the majestic slopes of Mount Kenya before descending into the semi-arid wilderness of Samburu National Reserve. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge or tented camp and enjoy a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive across the reserve’s open landscapes, ideal for spotting wildlife—including the famous “Samburu Special Five”: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk, the long-necked antelope famed for standing on its hind legs to feed. As the sun sets, return to camp for dinner and a magical evening under the starlit African sky.

Day two is dedicated to a full exploration of Samburu National Reserve. Begin with an early morning game drive, when wildlife is most active and the golden sunlight enhances the dramatic landscapes. The Ewaso Nyiro River teems with life—watch elephants wade, crocodiles bask, and flocks of colorful birds gather. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs may also appear during this prime wildlife viewing time. After a hearty breakfast, you can relax at your lodge or take an optional visit to a nearby Samburu village (small extra fee) to experience the rich culture and traditions of this proud nomadic community. In the late afternoon, head out for another thrilling game drive, as predators become active and elephants congregate along the riverbanks before dusk, creating unforgettable safari moments.
