Drive about 225k to Afdera and obtain the local permit and Afar guide. Visit Lake Afdera. is one of the woredas in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. It is named after the saline Lake Afdera, located in the southern part of the Afar Depression. the small town Afdera provides the easiest access to the lake, freshwater, hot spring where you can swim, enjoy a pair of formant volcanoes, rise above the eastern and southern shores of the lakes, Overnight camping on the beach side of Lake Afdera, enjoy the hot spring on camping.

Day 3

Drive to Ert Ale

Visit the smoking mountain Spend 2-3 hours visiting the volcano, and take some rest.
Erta Ale is 613 meters (2,011 ft) high, with one or sometimes two active lava lakes at the summit which occasionally overflow on the south side of the volcano. We encourage clients to climb in the dark to avoid the worst of the heat, we would recommended starting the hike around 15:30 allowing filter travellers to visit the lava lake just before the dusk, and those less fit to do most of the hiking in natural light. Either way, you need solid shoes, sunblock and a hat.

Begin your full day City tour with a visit of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of Ethiopia's most sacred places of worship. Admire the modern Ethiopian church art, decorated with ecclesiastical paintings in both modern and medieval styles. Visit the museum of the church's treasures and see the final resting place of Haile Selassie and his wife Menen.
Next, head to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to one of the world's most important paleontological exhibits, including a realistic replica of the 3.5-million-year-old skull known as Lucy. Steep drive into the Entoto Hills to visit the high peak. Merkato, one of the largest open markets in Africa. Experience the bustling commercial hub of Ethiopia, see the depth of local activities.
Finally, visit the Women's Pottery Association in Addis Ababa, a cooperative producing lovely functional and decorative pieces. View their process, and browse the shop for a variety of items.
