Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro is a massive crater in Tanzania on the edge of the Serengeti savannah, formed as a caldera by the collapse of a large volcano approximately 2.5 million years ago. The crater is 610 meters deep, and its rim rises to 2,286 meters above sea level. Lake Magadi, renowned for its large flamingo population, is situated on the floor of the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is unique in that, over many years, it has developed its own habitat for numerous animal species, which are unable to escape. The crater is home to approximately 25,000 animals and has the highest density of predators in all of Africa. The journey from the lake to the crater takes just over an hour. On arrival, we start our descent along the picturesque crater walls into the caldera for an unforgettable safari. Ngorongoro is also home to black rhinoceroses, elephants, and, unusually for these latitudes, hippos. Will create a time for lunch in picnic style. Return to the lodge for dinner.
