Moshi / Arusha – Rongai Gate (1950m) – Simba Camp (2600m)

After a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha, arrive at Rongai Gate for registration and briefing. Begin the trek through farmland and pine forests, with chances to see local wildlife and meet welcoming villagers along the way. The gentle ascent gradually introduces you to Kilimanjaro’s northern landscapes before reaching Simba Camp near the First Cave, your peaceful first night on the mountain beneath the stars.

Simba Camp (2600m) – Kikelewa Camp (3600m)

Climb through expansive moorlands with spectacular views of the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. Pass the Second Cave and admire unique high-altitude flora such as giant lobelias and groundsels. Arrive at Kikelewa Camp, a quiet campsite ideal for acclimatization, and enjoy sunset views over the moorlands, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

A shorter but steeper hike leads to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, located beneath the jagged peaks of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon resting, acclimatizing, and enjoying stunning photography opportunities. This scenic campsite offers dramatic views of the alpine desert, rugged peaks, and moorlands below, creating a true sense of being immersed in Africa’s wilderness.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m) – Kibo Hut (4700m)

Today’s trek crosses the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, a lunar-like alpine desert offering an otherworldly experience. Marvel at the open plains and distant glaciers as you approach Kibo Hut, your base camp for the final summit attempt. Arrive in the afternoon to rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the challenging ascent ahead.
