Transfer to Hwange National Park - Let the Safari Begin

A morning drive to Hwange National Park and onto The Hide Safari Camp. You'll enjoy the drama of game drives and walks with armed rangers in Zimbabwe's prime wilderness area. Guides in Zimbabwe are known across Africa for their exceptional skill, depth of knowledge, and rigorous training—arguably some of the most comprehensive on the continent. To become a fully licensed professional guide, candidates must pass demanding examinations that cover animal behavior, botany, geology, ornithology, survival skills, tracking, navigation, and advanced first aid. The process often takes several years. Beyond technical expertise, Zimbabwean guides are celebrated for their storytelling, cultural insight, and ability to connect visitors with the country’s history, traditions, and conservation efforts.

You'll have an afternoon of relaxation followed by an evening game drive. You will enjoy dinner under the stars.

Explore Wild & Dramatic Hwange National Park

Two days of game drives from The Hide Safari Camp center on the camp's exceptional location overlooking a perennial waterhole that attracts constant wildlife action, with massive elephant herds (often over 100 animals) dominating the views as they drink, bathe, and interact, alongside buffalo, giraffe, zebra, kudu, and predators lurking at the edges. Each day includes early morning and afternoon 4x4 drives targeting frequent sightings of large lion prides, endangered painted wild dogs, elusive leopards in trees, cheetahs on plains, and diverse antelope; by late season, extreme water scarcity creates dramatic concentrations of thousands of animals for intense predator-prey encounters. Night drives reveal nocturnal species like hyenas, honey badgers, civets, and spotlighted cats on kills, while downtime at camp offers uninterrupted waterhole viewing from elevated decks or the underground hide, delivering one of Zimbabwe's most immersive Big Five experiences in a richly diverse ecosystem.

Game Drives, Boats and Walks by Lake Kariba

Days at Changa Safari Camp typically start with dawn game drives or guided walks through mopane woodlands and grasslands spotting large elephant herds, buffalo, lions, leopards, and antelope drawn to the water, followed by brunch back at the intimate eight-tent camp; afternoons feature pontoon boat cruises for hippos, crocodiles, prolific birdlife (including African fish eagles), tigerfish angling, or excursions to dramatic Sanyati Gorge, ending with sundowners on the lake as elephants gather on the shore.

Evenings bring al fresco dinners under the stars, poolside relaxation, or beach bonfires, with downtime offering uninterrupted views of the vast lake and Matusadona mountains from elevated decks or private tent verandas in this serene, family-owned oasis.
