Day 2

Transfer to Kibale Forest - Home of Chimpanzees

Take a scenic drive through rolling hills dotted with tea estates to Kibale National Park, one of the most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda. Known for its 300 bird species and population of chimpanzees, Kibale is home to 11 primate species. You may also spot mangabeys and a vast array of butterflies. Arrive at your location in a patch of evergreen forest, just outside the southern part of Kibale Forest National Park. It borders the Magombe swamp, known for the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary and 10 min drive to Kanyanchu Visitor Center, where your chimp track starts from. Retire the day with a visit to the Top of the world.

Day 3

Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi community immersion

Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi community immersion

Rise early this morning and make the short drive to the start of your chimpanzee trek. The chimpanzees feed high in the trees, so binoculars are a must. Barks of baboons occasionally pierce the forest silence as you make your way along the trail. Return to the lodge for lunch. Afterward, enjoy time free to indulge in a community immersion at Bigodi wetland sanctuary.

Offering magnificent views of the rift valley, it is also known for its tree-climbing lions. Upon arrival at your lodge, take in the park panorama and views of the Rwenzori Mountains as you enjoy an evening game drive in Kasenyi plains.

The region occupies the main migration corridor between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, prolific plains game resides here, like the topi and Uganda kobs, as well as buffaloes, hippos and some of the largest herds of elephants in the country. Spotted hyenas are common, and an occasional surprise of leopards. In the evening, enjoy a stunning cruise on the famous Kazinga channel.

Make your way out of the Rift Valley through the Kigezi Highlands and on to the mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later today, enjoy a lazy evening overlooking the impenetrable forest.

Upon sighting the endangered mountain gorillas, spend up to an hour with these fascinating creatures and observing their surprisingly human-like interactions. Return to the hotel with time to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.
