Tarangire National Park-The Elephant Paradise

The scenic drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park takes approximately three hours. During the dry season, the park is at its most impressive, as migratory wildlife returns to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River. Vast concentrations of wildebeest, zebras, elands, oryx, and especially elephants gather here, earning Tarangire its reputation as an elephant paradise. These abundant herds remain in the park until the rains begin, when they once again disperse to richer grazing areas. Tarangire National Park is also famous for its ancient baobab trees, which are among the most striking features of the landscape. Some of these giant trees are believed to be hundreds, even over a thousand years old, earning them the nickname “the upside-down tree” because their bare branches resemble roots reaching into the sky.
