Day 1

Pick up from Entebbe and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

This day will start with a pick up from Entebbe or Kampala, from your residence or hotel at 6 am. Meet your safari driver, have a briefing of the safari and set off to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After a few hours of the drive, you will stopover at the equator briefly, proceed to Mbarara where you will have an enroute lunch.

Upon arrival at the park, you will be driven to your accommodation and check in.

Day 2

Morning game drive and boat ride on Kazinga channel in the afternoon

After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will set off for a game drive around the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The game drive gives you a chance to search for lions, leopards, elephants, Topi, defassa waterbuck, Uganda kob, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, and many birds. The game drive will take approximately 4 hours.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy the exciting 2 hour boat cruise on Kazinga Channel which connects two lakes, Lake George and Lake Edward. The trip takes you through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and other animals may be seen drinking at the channel shores and is also a great activity for photography, bird watching and game viewing.

Day 3

After breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and drive to Kalinzu forest for chimpanzee tracking. Kalinzu forest is located near Queen Elizabeth national park and is one of the close places to see chimpanzees. You will be required to be at the offices of Kalinzu early in the morning and start the trek right after the briefing. When you come across the chimpanzees, you will spend an hour in their presence.

From here, you will exit the forest and head to Bwindi in the southwest. Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation, have dinner and later rest.

Day 4

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters from where you shall be briefed, meet the team you will be heading with into the forest and later set off. The Gorilla trekking experience takes 3-4 hours including the one hour allocated to watch and observe the gorillas. After the trek, you will slowly walk back to meet your driver, pick up your trekking certificate from the park offices, and return to the lodge for relaxation.

In the evening, you will go for a community tour and spend some time with the Batwa. These are ex-hunters and gatherers who lived in the Bwindi forest with the mountain gorillas back then. They narrate stories of their history and entertain visitors with traditional practices like dances and making fire with sticks among others.

Day 5

Drive To Cyanika Border, transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Drive To Cyanika Border, transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will check out of your accommodation and drive to the Cyanika border. Go through immigration for clearance and cross over to Rwanda. You will proceed to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival at the lodge, check in, have lunch and later visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund for a self-guided tour.

Return to the lodge and relax. Later, have dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 6

Golden monkey trekking, twin lakes tour

Golden monkey trekking, twin lakes tour

Enjoy your morning breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. Then set off for the activity. When you come across the monkeys, you will spend an hour with them as they jump from one tree to another.
Later, return to the lodge for early lunch and go for the twin lakes tour, starting with a short boat ride to the Island where you will chill, enjoy the views of the surroundings and the Virunga mountains at a distance.
After the relaxation and fun, drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7

The Gorilla Guardians experience and transfer to Kigali

The Gorilla Guardians experience and transfer to Kigali

You will have breakfast at the lodge, then head to the Gorilla Guardians village to meet the ex-poachers who are today involved in programs that contribute towards tourism and conservation. They will entertain you with performances of cultural music and dance and the traditional way of the Rwandan wedding. You have an option to go for a second gorilla trek, this time around in Volcanoes National Park.

Later, you will set off to Kigali with lunch in Musanze or enroute depending on the time or setting after the cultural experience.

On this last day of your 8-day cross-country safari, you will have breakfast at your hotel, check out of the hotel and drive to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about the 1994 Rwanda genocide. If you have some more time before your departure time, you can add Kimironko market to this day’s program so that you can shop for some souvenirs.
Your safari driver will drop you off at Kigali International Airport or your hotel.
