Day 2

Transfer to Kibale National Park

On Day 2, you travel to Kibale National Park in southwest Uganda, near the Rwenzori Mountains. Gazetted in 1932 and upgraded to a national park in 1993, Kibale covers 766 sq. km of lush tropical forest mixed with grasslands, savannahs, and swamps. Known as the “Empire of the Chimps,” it offers one of Uganda’s top wildlife experiences after Bwindi. The park is home to about 1,400 chimpanzees—Uganda’s highest concentration—and a total of 13 primate species. Visitors enjoy unforgettable chimp tracking amid evergreen rainforests rich in over 229 tree species.

On Day 3, enjoy an exhilarating chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest, guided by experts as you observe chimpanzees’ playful behavior in their natural habitat—one of the safari’s true highlights. Afterwards, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, stopping at the Equator for a memorable photo opportunity straddling the northern and southern hemispheres. Queen Elizabeth NP, Uganda’s second most visited park, was gazetted in 1952 and renamed after a royal visit. Day 4 begins with an early morning game drive in the Mweya sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where sunrise reveals lions, elephants, buffaloes, and rich birdlife across the savannah. After breakfast, travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Established as a reserve in 1932 and a national park in 1991, Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its endangered mountain gorillas—about 470 of the region’s population live here. This ancient forest also hosts remarkable biodiversity, including primates, birds, butterflies, and reptiles, making it one of East Africa’s most ecologically diverse parks.

Gorilla tracking and Batwa experience

Your day starts with an unforgettable experience as you embark on a gorilla tracking expedition in the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will hike through the dense foliage and bamboo thickets to witness the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Later in the afternoon, you will also venture to Explore Batwa Cultural Trail, an experience established by the Batwa Forest People of southwestern Uganda to highlight their ancient cultures and traditions. The Batwa Forest People are an ethnic group with rich and ancient ancestral traditions and rely on the forest, hunting and harvesting wild yams and honey without adversely affecting the area's ecosystem. Exploring the 'Batwa Trail' allows you to join their guides and venture along extensive forest trails to learn about their cultures, traditions, and techniques of surviving in the forest. You will also visit their villages in the forest to observe musical performances and traditional hunting/gathering demonstrations.
