You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and begin the day with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, offering insight into Rwanda’s history and remarkable transformation. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside to Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Mountains. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge, enjoy dinner, and relax in preparation for an exciting gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Golden Monkey trekking and transfer to Uganda

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers on the guidelines for golden monkey trekking. After your briefing, You will then enter the rainforest with experienced trackers in search of the golden monkeys, spending a magical hour observing them and learning about their behavior and conservation. Later, you will drive to the Rwanda–Uganda border and continue on to Bwindi for your upcoming gorilla trekking adventure. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a lodge on the forest edge. (Accommodation depends on the location of your gorilla permit.).

Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing center for an orientation on gorilla trekking guidelines. You will then be assigned to a small group of up to eight guests and led by experienced, armed ranger guides into the forest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Once the gorillas are found, you will enjoy a rare and unforgettable one-hour encounter, observing them from a safe distance as they go about their daily lives. After the trek, you will continue to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay overlooking the lake.
