After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, meet your guide and begin your journey with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful site commemorating the victims of the 1994 genocide. Depart northwest through Rwanda’s rolling green hills toward Volcanoes National Park. This scenic drive passes through market towns and terraced farmlands. Arrive in the afternoon and check in at The Garden Place Hotel or a similar budget accommodation for overnight rest.

Begin early with a transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a safety briefing. Today, you will have the unique opportunity to track the playful golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. After a briefing from the park rangers on the rules and guidelines for golden monkey trekking, you will set off into the lush forest with your expert guide.

As you trek through the verdant vegetation, listen for the distinctive calls of the golden monkeys and keep your eyes peeled for their shimmering coats. Golden monkeys are known for their acrobatic antics and social interactions, providing a captivating wildlife encounter. You'll spend quality time observing and photographing these charming primates in their natural habitat before returning to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch. Thereafter, you'll head to the border, where, after clearing, you will proceed to Bwindi.

Day 3

Gorilla Trekking and Lake Bunyonyi

You'll enjoy an early breakfast to fuel up for the day’s adventure. You'll head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on the trekking procedures, safety measures, and the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. You'll embark on a guided trek into the forest in search of a gorilla family. The trek can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. You'll enjoy the experience of observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat for up to one hour. Carry a packed lunch to enjoy during the trek. You'll trek back to the park headquarters. Later, you'll transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive is through a beautiful part of the country, often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its cool weather. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa [900 meters deep] and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim, as it is bilharzia-free.
