Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

Your climb begins at Marangu Gate after completing registration at Kilimanjaro National Park. Trek through lush rainforest with towering trees, ferns, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys. The trail gradually ascends to Mandara Hut, where you will spend your first night on the mountain.

Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

Leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The landscape opens with spectacular views of the mountain and surrounding plains. Trek through giant heathers and unique alpine vegetation before reaching Horombo Hut, a scenic camp with views of Mawenzi Peak.

Horombo Hut

Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut for acclimatization. You may take a short hike toward Mawenzi Ridge or Zebra Rocks before returning to camp. This important day allows your body to adjust to the altitude and improves your chances of reaching the summit successfully.

Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Continue trekking through the alpine desert landscape toward Kibo Hut. The trail crosses the wide saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, offering dramatic volcanic scenery. Arrive at Kibo Hut to rest, eat dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Kibo Hut – Summit – Horombo Hut

Your summit climb begins around midnight. Ascend steeply to Gilman's Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend to Horombo Hut for rest.
