Day 1

Arusha/Moshi – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

Arusha/Moshi – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route adventure begins with a morning transfer from Arusha or Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration and entry formalities. Afterward, continue to the trailhead and begin trekking through lush montane rainforest rich in birds, colobus monkeys, and giant trees. This first stage is gentle and allows climbers to settle into the pace of the mountain while enjoying one of the quietest sections of Kilimanjaro. By late afternoon, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, also called Big Tree Camp, where you will rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next day’s ascent.

Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp

After breakfast, continue your Mount Kilimanjaro trek through the final stretch of rainforest before entering the heather and moorland zone. The trail climbs steadily with increasingly open views as you approach the Shira Plateau. Today’s walk is rewarding, with changing vegetation and the first real feeling of high-mountain trekking. On clear days, you may enjoy striking views of Kibo’s summit cone ahead. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon, where you can relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and watch the sun set over one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic landscapes.

Day 3

Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Today’s trek across the Shira Plateau is shorter but important for acclimatization. You walk through open moorland with broad views of volcanic formations, distant glaciers, and the dramatic summit of Kibo. This stage allows your body to adjust gradually to the rising altitude while giving you time to enjoy one of the most beautiful sections of the Lemosho Route. The trail is less demanding than some later days, making it ideal for steady progress and scenic photography. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight, surrounded by expansive alpine views and a true sense of Kilimanjaro wilderness.

Day 4

Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

This is one of the most important acclimatization days on your Kilimanjaro climbing itinerary. You ascend gradually toward Lava Tower, reaching a higher altitude before descending to sleep lower at Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” pattern helps improve acclimatization and boosts summit chances. The scenery becomes more dramatic, with giant groundsels, rocky slopes, and sweeping mountain views. After lunch near Lava Tower, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley, where the famous Barranco Wall rises nearby. Overnight at Barranco Camp, one of the most spectacular camps on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 5

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical section that rewards trekkers with magnificent panoramic views. After reaching the top, the trail continues with short ascents and descents across alpine terrain toward Karanga Camp. Though the day is shorter, it remains valuable for acclimatization and recovery before the summit push. The route offers stunning views of glaciers, valleys, and the southern side of Kilimanjaro. After arriving at camp, rest, hydrate, and enjoy dinner while your guides brief you about the final approach to high camp.

Day 6

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Today you continue upward through sparse alpine desert to Barafu Camp, the final base before summit night. The trail is steeper and the air is thinner, so a slow and steady pace is essential. Barafu means “ice,” and the camp sits in a dramatic, exposed setting with incredible views of Mawenzi and the surrounding clouds below. After an early dinner, you rest for a few hours and prepare your gear for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak. This is a short but important day focused on conserving energy, staying warm, and getting mentally ready for the summit attempt.

Day 7

Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

This is summit day, the highlight of your Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route trek. Around midnight, begin the challenging climb toward Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable experience, with glaciers, vast skies, and views across Tanzania. After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. This is the longest and most demanding day of the trek, but also the most rewarding, marking the successful completion of your summit climb.

Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha/Moshi

After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through the lush forest to Mweka Gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. This last section is scenic and refreshing as you leave the high mountain behind and return to lower elevations. At the gate, meet your driver for the transfer back to Arusha or Moshi, where your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure in Tanzania comes to an end. This day is ideal for relaxation, celebration, and reflecting on an incredible journey to the Roof of Africa via one of the mountain’s most scenic and recommended routes.
