Nairobi to Samburu – Journey to Northern Kenya

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi as you travel north through the scenic highlands of central Kenya. Along the way, you will pass coffee plantations, rural farms, and beautiful countryside landscapes before crossing the equator near Nanyuki. The journey continues toward Samburu National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge or tented camp.

After lunch and some relaxation, you will head out for your first afternoon game drive in the reserve. Samburu offers excellent wildlife viewing and unique northern species rarely seen in other parks in Kenya.

During the game drive you may see large elephant herds along the Ewaso Nyiro River, lions resting under acacia trees, reticulated giraffes browsing in the savannah, Grevy’s zebras grazing on the plains, and crocodiles along the riverbanks.
Return to your lodge or camp in the evening for dinner and overnight. Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Full Day Safari in Samburu – Discover the Samburu Special Five

After breakfast, you will depart for a full day of wildlife exploration in Samburu National Reserve with a packed lunch.
Game drives will take you across open savannah, riverbanks, and acacia forests where a wide variety of wildlife can be seen.

You may spot lions hunting near the river, leopards resting in trees, elephants bathing in the Ewaso Nyiro River, and buffalo grazing near water sources. Samburu is also the best place to see the rare northern species known as the Samburu Special Five, including the gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich.

Bird lovers will also enjoy the reserve, which hosts more than 450 bird species, including kingfishers, hornbills, vultures, and eagles.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the reserve before continuing with afternoon wildlife viewing.

Morning Game Drive and Return to Nairobi

Wake up early for a sunrise game drive, the best time to see predators when they are most active.

This early morning safari often provides incredible wildlife moments such as lions returning from night hunts, elephants crossing the river, or giraffes moving across the plains in the golden morning light.

After the game drive you will return to the lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin your journey back to Nairobi. Enjoy the scenic drive through central Kenya before arriving in Nairobi in the late afternoon, marking the end of your Samburu wildlife safari adventure.
