Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are warmly welcomed by the Big Time Adventures team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha (approx. 1–1.5 hours). Along the way, enjoy scenic views of coffee plantations, banana groves, and Maasai homesteads, with possible glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.

Settle into your hotel and unwind before a detailed pre-trek briefing and gear check led by our expert mountain guides, ensuring you are fully prepared for the journey ahead. Enjoy dinner and a restful evening in anticipation of your Mount Meru adventure.

Arusha to Momella Gate - Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Arusha National Park (approx. 1.5–2 hours). At Momella Gate, complete formalities and meet your armed ranger before beginning the trek. The trail winds through lush montane forest, rich with wildlife including giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys.

A steady ascent leads you through scenic greenery, waterfalls, and towering trees, offering an immersive introduction to Mount Meru’s ecosystem. After 4–5 hours, arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) set in a peaceful forest clearing, with views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Relax, enjoy a warm dinner, and settle in for your first night on the mountain as your guides prepare you for the journey ahead.

Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut

After breakfast, begin a steady ascent from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,570m). The trail transitions from dense forest into the open heath zone, revealing striking landscapes of giant lobelias, volcanic ridges, and expansive views of Meru’s crater, with Kilimanjaro visible on clear days.
Arrive at Saddle Hut in 3–5 hours for lunch and rest. Later, enjoy an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m), offering panoramic views across Arusha National Park and the surrounding plains. Return to camp for an early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit climb.

Summit to Socialist Peak & Descent to Miriakamba Hut

An early midnight start marks your summit push to Socialist Peak (4,566m). Ascend under the stars along dramatic ridges past Rhino and Cobra Points, reaching the summit at sunrise rewarded with breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and endless plains below.

After celebrating at the top, descend to Saddle Hut for a well-earned brunch before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut. This demanding yet unforgettable 10–12 hour journey blends alpine desert and forest landscapes, delivering the ultimate sense of achievement.

Descent to Momella Gate - Arusha

After breakfast, descend from Miriakamba Hut through the lush forests of Arusha National Park. The trail offers final wildlife sightings, with giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and colobus monkeys often seen along the way.

After 2–3 hours, arrive at Momella Gate to complete formalities and receive your summit certificate. You are then transferred back to Arusha celebrating your Mount Meru adventure.
