This is your first full day of walking safaris in Tsavo East. The goal is to track wildlife on foot, focusing on the park’s famous "tuskers" (elephants with exceptionally large tusks).
Morning Walk: Depart at dawn with your armed ranger and guide. You will walk through the bush, learning to read tracks and signs. The rangers are experts at locating the resident herds of elephants.
Afternoon Walk: Focus on the smaller, but equally thrilling, inhabitants of the bush. You will search for the Usambara Baboon Spider (a large, colorful tarantula species) in its burrow and, with careful guidance, look for the elusive Red Spitting Cobra. (Note: Safety is paramount; these are wild animals, and sightings are observed from a safe distance).

Yatta Plateau & Kamungi Conservancy
This is your final and perhaps most ambitious day of hiking. You will explore the Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world, and the adjacent Kamungi Conservancy.
Morning – Yatta Plateau: You will ascend the steep escarpment of the Yatta Plateau for a hike along its flat top. The views over the Tsavo River valley are breathtaking. The plateau offers a unique perspective on the sheer scale of Tsavo’s geology.
Afternoon – Kamungi Conservancy: Descending from the plateau, you will walk through the Kamungi Conservancy. This area serves as a critical animal corridor between Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Your guide and ranger will focus on tracking the elusive leopard. While sightings are never guaranteed, walking in this corridor offers the best chance to see leopard tracks and, with luck, a glimpse of the cat itself in the late afternoon light. You will also have an evening game drive to sport Lions at the far end of Kamungi conservancy.
