After breakfast, begin your trek across the spectacular Shira Plateau, gradually heading east toward the higher slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail ascends along a rocky ridge, passing the junction leading toward Kibo Peak, before continuing southeast toward Lava Tower, also known as the “Shark’s Tooth,” at approximately 4,650 m (15,250 ft).

After reaching Lava Tower, take some time to rest and enjoy the dramatic alpine scenery. The trail then passes a second junction leading toward Arrow Glacier before descending steadily through the rugged landscape to Barranco Camp.
