Day 1
Nairobi to Mount Longonot – The Fly Camp Experience
Nairobi to Mount Longonot – The Fly Camp Experience
Morning:
Depart Nairobi at 5:00 AM in your private Adventurego 4x4 safari vehicle. Enjoy a scenic drive west, descending into the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment with a brief stop at the Rift Valley Viewpoint. Arrive at Mount Longonot National Park gate by 7:00 AM. After a briefing by your guide and a KWS ranger, begin the steep but rewarding hike up Mount Longonot (2,776m), winding through bushy slopes and rocky terrain.
Afternoon:
Reach the crater rim by mid-morning. Your porters will have set up the Fly Camp, a lightweight mobile camp on the upper slopes. Unlike traditional lodges, fly camping places you high on an extinct volcano, sleeping under a canvas fly-sheet with only a mozzie net separating you from the night sounds of hyenas and nightjars. Enjoy a gourmet three-course meal prepared over an open fire by your private chef as the sun sets over the Rift Valley.

After a hearty breakfast, break camp and descend via a different, less-used route on the southern slopes, offering new perspectives of the volcanic cone and surrounding savannah.
Afternoon:
Arrive at the park gate by 11:00 AM. Drive north to Sleeping Warrior Camp on the shores of Lake Elementaita, arriving for lunch. The afternoon is yours to rest, enjoy camp facilities, or take a short guided walk along the lake’s shoreline, known for its flocks of lesser flamingos and great white pelicans. Ol Doinyo Eburru – Geothermal Wonderland Day Hike
Morning:
After an early breakfast at 6:30 AM, drive to Ol Doinyo Eburru (2,856m), an extinct volcanic complex still alive with geothermal activity. Begin your guided hike through montane juniper forest, ascending through rocky ridges. Your guide will point out steam vents and fumaroles – evidence of volcanic heat still active beneath your feet. The air carries a faint scent of sulfur, reminding you that you are walking on a sleeping giant.
Afternoon:
Reach the highest point around midday. Explore natural caves that once served as Mau Mau hideouts. Enjoy a picnic lunch with panoramic views from Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha. Descend through a different route, passing stands of giant lobelias and endemic bird species such as the Eburru white-eye. Soysambu Conservancy – Walking Safari & Camel/Horse Rides
Morning:
After breakfast at 6:30 AM, drive to Soysambu Conservancy, a 48,000-acre private sanctuary forming part of the Lake Nakuru ecosystem. Join armed rangers for a guided walking safari – at eye level with the earth, you will learn to track animals by footprints, droppings, and other signs. Watch for Rothschild’s giraffes (endemic to this region), zebras, elands, buffalo, and over 400 bird species.
Afternoon:
After a picnic lunch inside the conservancy, choose your activity: a camel ride swaying across the savannah following ancient trading routes, or a horse ride (experienced riders only) alongside a Maasai guide. Continue exploration on foot or by vehicle to Lake Elementaita’s southern shores, witnessing bubbling hot springs and shoreline crusted with white soda. Return to camp for a bush dinner under the stars.

Sleeping Warrior Mountain – Sunrise Hike – Farewell Lunch – Return to Nairobi
Morning:
Wake at 5:00 AM for a quick breakfast. By 5:30 AM, begin your hike up Sleeping Warrior Mountain (2,127m), named for its unmistakable silhouette – a reclining Maasai warrior resting on his back, spear pointing to the sky. From the summit at 7:30 AM, enjoy 360-degree views: Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita, Mount Longonot, and Lake Naivasha. Your guide shares the Maasai legend behind the mountain’s name. Descend slowly in the morning light.
Afternoon:
Return to camp by 10:00 AM. Shower, pack, and enjoy a farewell lunch featuring grilled meats, fresh salads, and seasonal fruits.
