Lalibela Churches & Hike to Hudad Lodge

Start the day with a visit to Bet Giyorgis, the iconic cross-shaped church and masterpiece of Lalibela. Continue exploring nearby monastic sites before beginning a scenic hike toward Hudad Lodge. The trek passes through dramatic highland landscapes, traditional villages, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Ethiopian plateau. Depending on pace, the hike takes 1.5 to 5 hours. Arrive at Hudad Lodge in the late afternoon and enjoy sunset views over the escarpment. Overnight at the lodge with a peaceful mountain atmosphere.

Abuna Yosef Mountain Expedition

Today, enjoy a challenging hike to Abuna Yosef Mountain (4,260 m), one of Ethiopia’s highest peaks. The full-day trek offers spectacular views of the northern highlands, deep valleys, and rugged mountain landscapes, with opportunities to see endemic wildlife and alpine plants.

After the hike, stay at a budget campsite in a simple safari tent with comfortable standard beds. Shared bathroom facilities include toilets, showers, and sinks. This is a participation tour, so guests may assist with light camp tasks, while our staff handle tent setup, cooking, cleaning, and packing.

Yimrehane Kristos Monastery & Ben Abeba Experience

Hike through scenic countryside for 4–7 hours to visit Yimrehane Kristos Church, a remarkable pre-rock-hewn church known for its ancient wooden architecture and preserved human remains. Learn about its unique construction and religious importance. After exploring the site, return to Lalibela in the afternoon. In the evening, enjoy a memorable dining experience at Ben Abeba, a dramatic clifftop restaurant offering spectacular sunset views and creative Ethiopian fusion cuisine. Overnight stay in Lalibela.
