Day 1

Experience the salt pans, sleep under the dome of stars in the vast openness
You will be picked up shortly after breakfast in your lodge and embark on a 3-hour journey to Gweta village with your guide. The road will be tarmac, and along the way, you will drive through the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Park. As you drive along, look on the sides of the road, as you might spot some animals feeding peacefully or resting under the shade. Common species to see on this drive are elephants and some small antelopes. On a good day, you might spot giraffes, zebras and blue wildebeests.
On arrival in Gweta, you will be served lunch, and thereafter, once the temperature cools, you will take a slow 2-hour drive to the salt pans. You will observe the beautiful sunset on arrival. Dinner will be served in the camp. After dinner, when the night sky clears, we will switch off all the lights, and you will have time to admire its beauty. As you watch the stars, we will learn about them and do storytelling.

Day 2
A morning walk with the meerkats and watch them as they feed and play
A morning walk with the meerkats and watch them as they feed and play
In the morning, you will be served coffee, tea, Juice, cereals, and fruit. Thereafter, you will be taken on a drive to the edge of the salt pans, where you will be introduced to the most famous species in that area - the meerkats. These beautiful mammals are best known for their tight social structure and their ability to fight off some of the world’s deadliest snakes found in the region, such as the black mamba and the spitting cobra. Their day-to-day survival skills in this harsh environment make them among the best survivors in the Kalahari. With a sophisticated social structure, where some members have to look out for predators, especially raptors, while others feed, making them one of the most intelligent species in the world.
You will have time to walk with them as they feed, and a specialized guide will provide an interpretation of the social structure and of their feeding and breeding behaviors. After that, you will be served a bush breakfast before driving back to Maun.
