Addis Ababa – Abijatta-Shalla National Park – Hawassa

Early in the morning, depart from Addis Ababa and drive into the Great Rift Valley. En route, stop at Abijatta-Shalla National Park, one of Ethiopia’s premier birding destinations, known for its alkaline lakes and dramatic scenery. Enjoy photographing a variety of aquatic and dry-land bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and other endemic birds.

After the session, continue to Hawassa, a lively lakeside town. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge. Before sunset, take a boat trip on Lake Hawassa, offering excellent opportunities to photograph a wide range of aquatic birds.

Bird Photography in Hawassa

Spend a full day exploring the rich birdlife around Lake Hawassa, one of Ethiopia’s most rewarding birding locations. Start early in the morning when bird activity is at its peak, capturing stunning images of kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, and many other species.

After a relaxing midday break, continue photographing in the late afternoon, making the most of the soft light and active birdlife. This day provides excellent opportunities for both close-up and action photography.

Hawassa – Lake Langano – Lake Ziway – Addis Ababa

Begin the day with an early morning bird photography session around Hawassa. After breakfast, start your return journey to Addis Ababa.

On the way, stop at Lake Langano and Lake Ziway, both excellent birding sites. Photograph a variety of water birds and raptors along the lakeshores before continuing to Addis Ababa.

Arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your birding and photography tour.
