Over 2 million ungulates, 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 550 cheetahs and some 500 bird species inhabit an area close to 15,000 square kilometers in size. Today, most visitors come here with one aim alone - to witness millions of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and elands on a mass trek to quench their thirst for water and to eat fresh grass. During this great cyclical movement, these ungulates move around the ecosystem in a seasonal pattern, defined by rainfall and grass nutrients.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority
Today, we will wake up early, and after breakfast, we will descend into the incredible Ngorongoro Crater within the wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area for an unforgettable safari experience. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations. The crater is home to an estimated 30,000 large mammals, making it one of the most densely populated wildlife areas on the planet. Due to its natural enclosure formed by steep crater walls, wildlife remains within the area year-round, creating exceptional opportunities for game viewing.
During the game drive on the crater floor, you have excellent chances to see the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros—along with hyenas, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and a variety of antelope species. The landscape is equally stunning, with open grasslands, swamps, acacia forests, and shimmering lakes that attract flamingos and other birdlife.
