Your Ibyiza guide will pick you up from your address in Kampala or Entebbe early in the morning, and your journey to Kibale Forest NP begins. The drive west takes approximately seven hours, but it is far from monotonous, passing through vibrant towns, roadside markets, and rolling countryside, offering an authentic glimpse into daily Ugandan life.

As you travel, the landscape gradually transforms into lush greenery and tea plantations, signaling your approach to the primate capital of World. There will be brief stops along the way for refreshments, photography, and stretching your legs.

You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon or early evening, with time to relax, freshen up, and soak in the tranquil forest atmosphere before dinner and your overnight stay.

After breakfast, head to Kibale Forest park headquarters for a safety briefing before venturing into the forest in search of habituated chimpanzees. Spend an unforgettable hour observing our closest relatives in their natural habitat, feeding, grooming, playing and caring for their young, as expert rangers bring their fascinating world to life around you.

Return to the lodge for a hearty lunch and a short rest to recharge.

In the afternoon, explore Bigodi Village and Wetland, a community-run sanctuary rich in birdlife and primates, and one of Uganda's most rewarding experiences. Beyond its natural beauty, every visit directly contributes to the local community, with proceeds channelled into building schools and providing small loans to local families. After breakfast, you’ll set off on a scenic journey south towards Bwindi Impenetrable NP. While the drive is fairly long, it is an adventure in itself, filled with ever-changing landscapes and remarkable wildlife encounters.

En route, you’ll pass through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, a remote and wildlife-rich area where buffaloes, elephants, topi, Uganda kobs, and an impressive variety of birdlife roam freely. Ishasha is especially famous for its rare tree-climbing lions, often seen lounging on the branches of fig trees, so be sure to scan the treetops carefully, as you might be lucky enough to spot them.

The journey then continues through winding roads and rolling hills, gradually leading you into the misty highlands surrounding Bwindi. You’ll arrive at your lodge in the evening, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the next day.

Today is the day you've been dreaming of, a face-to-face encounter with the gentle giants of Bwindi.

Your experience begins with a detailed briefing on trekking guidelines, ensuring your safety and the protection of the gorillas and their habitat. Led by an experienced guide and ranger, you'll venture deep into Bwindi's dense, ancient forest, winding through lush vegetation until that breathtaking, humbling moment when the mountain gorillas appear before you. You will spend one magical hour in their presence, a life-changing experience no photograph can fully capture.

After this experience, head back to the lodge to re-energise with a well deserved lunch, before descending from the forest and journeying to the serene shores of Lake Bunyonyi, a tranquil highland lake cradled in the rolling green hills of Kabale.
