Day 1
Arusha - Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp

After breakfast and a climbing briefing, drive to Umbwe Gate for registration before beginning the trek. The trail starts steeply through dense tropical rainforest with towering trees, hanging mosses, and rich vegetation surrounding the narrow path. The route is less crowded and offers a true wilderness experience from the very beginning. As you ascend, enjoy the sounds of birds and occasional sightings of monkeys in the forest canopy. After several hours of trekking, arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2
Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp

After breakfast, continue climbing through the diminishing rainforest into moorland and rugged valleys. The trail becomes steeper and more dramatic as it follows narrow ridges with spectacular views of the mountain and surrounding landscapes. The scenery changes rapidly with giant groundsels and volcanic rock formations appearing along the route. After crossing valleys and ridges, arrive at Barranco Camp located beneath the towering Barranco Wall. Spend the evening resting and acclimatizing while enjoying breathtaking mountain views. Dinner and overnight stay are at Barranco Camp.

Day 3
Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

After breakfast, begin the ascent of the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting highlights of the climb. Although steep in appearance, the climb is manageable and rewards trekkers with stunning panoramic views. After reaching the top, continue through alpine valleys and rocky terrain toward Karanga Camp. This shorter trekking day helps with acclimatization and allows time to rest before heading to higher elevations. Arrive at camp in the afternoon for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4
Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Following breakfast, continue ascending toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. The trail crosses barren alpine desert landscapes with incredible views of Kibo Peak and nearby glaciers. As altitude increases, the environment becomes colder and more rugged. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, enjoy an early dinner and rest while your guide prepares you for the midnight summit attempt. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing your climbing gear for the final ascent.
Day 5
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Shortly after midnight, begin the challenging summit ascent toward Stella Point and eventually Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. The climb is physically demanding but offers an unforgettable experience as you reach the summit during sunrise above the clouds. After celebrating and taking photographs at Uhuru Peak, descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down through alpine and moorland zones to Mweka Camp. Dinner and overnight stay are at Mweka Camp.

Day 6
Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate - Arusha
Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate - Arusha
After breakfast, continue descending through lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail is scenic and offers a final opportunity to appreciate Kilimanjaro’s beautiful lower slopes. Upon arrival at the gate, climbers receive their summit certificates before meeting the transfer vehicle back to Arusha or Moshi. This marks the successful completion of your adventurous Kilimanjaro climb via the challenging Umbwe Route.
